Regular eye exams are extremely important to preventative care, no matter the age or health status of the individual. An eye exam includes so much more than just updating your prescription for glasses or contact lenses. During the exam, our doctor will check your eye health for dryness, complications from wearing contact lenses, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol - all of which can significantly impact your vision. The American Optometric Association recommends children have a baseline eye exam between 6 and 12 months of age, between the ages of 3 and 5 before starting school, and annually from that age on. Adults should have an eye exam every year to 2 years depending on risk factors and at least annually for individuals 65 and older. Our practice offers comprehensive eye care for all members of your family - no matter the age!

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common vision condition where distant objects appear blurry while close-up objects remain clear. This occurs when the eye grows too long or the cornea’s curvature causes light to focus incorrectly inside the eye. Myopia typically develops in childhood and often progresses as children grow.
Unchecked, progressive myopia increases the risk of serious eye health issues in the future, including retinal detachment, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and cataracts. At Schuster Family Eyecare, we specialize in managing and slowing the progression of myopia in children, protecting their vision and overall eye health.
